Attempts to dispel the black legend that regional leaders Domingo and Cirilo Arenas betrayed the principles of the Plan of Ayala by switching to Carranza in 1917, a move that led to the killing of Domingo by the Zapatistas. Cirilo, in turn, was executed in 1920 by Carrancista officials.
